Loyalty balances import from a CSV, with column mappings pre-set for the common providers.

Map lifetime points, not just the balance

This is the one that goes wrong, and it goes wrong silently.

An account has a current balance — what the customer can spend — and lifetime points — everything they have ever earned. Tiers are calculated from lifetime points.

Import only the balance and every customer who has ever redeemed anything arrives with an understated lifetime total. A customer who spent everything arrives at zero. Your whole membership drops to Bronze on migration day, and the first anyone hears about it is a complaint.

If your provider does not export a lifetime column, reconstruct it as balance plus total redeemed. If you cannot get that either, import at the balance and expect to hand-correct your top tier.

What to export

Email address, current balance, lifetime or total earned points, tier, and account creation date. Take referral codes if offered, with the caveat below.

Check the counts, not the badge

An import reporting Completed having created zero accounts has not worked. Read the processed, skipped and failed counts.

The usual causes of a mass skip are a header row the mapper did not recognise, and an email column somewhere the source template does not expect.

Referral codes

Evident generates a unique code for every imported account that arrives without one, so nobody is left unable to refer.

What cannot come across is your old provider’s referral links. A Smile link on i.refs.cc, for instance, points at Smile’s infrastructure — those URLs stop resolving usefully when you leave, and cannot be redirected to Evident. Any code a customer already shared publicly is lost. Plan a re-share.

Set the orders start date

Before you create an ORDER_PLACED earning rule, set the orders start date — otherwise accrual refuses to run at all.

Set it to your migration date. Backdating it credits historical orders on top of the balances you just imported, which is usually not what you want.

Then check

  • Tier distribution against the old system, before announcing anything. If almost everyone is Bronze, the lifetime column did not come through.
  • Redemption end to end with a real account. The platform connection needs the scope: store_v2_marketing on BigCommerce, write_discounts and write_store_credit_account_transactions on Shopify.
  • Whether Shopify affects you. Automatic accrual from orders does not currently fire on Shopify — see Setting up loyalty.

Exporting

The same screen exports members and balances as CSV. It includes customer email addresses and is not gated behind anything narrower than access to the screen — treat the file as personal data.
