You already have the photos. Put them to work.

A gallery is a named, ordered set of images and videos you embed by slug — filled from your approved photo reviews, your own uploads, or moderated customer submissions. Product-tagged, lazy-loaded, and hosted by us.

Start with the reviews, not a hashtag

Most UGC projects stall at sourcing. Evident's answer is that if you are collecting photo reviews, the sourcing is already done — those photos arrive attached to a verified order, which means you know what the product was, who bought it and that they meant it.

Three sources fill a gallery and they compose freely: approved photo reviews, direct uploads of your own shoots, and customer submissions through a form on the widget. Submissions arrive pending and go through the same moderation queue as reviews, so nothing a stranger uploads reaches your storefront unseen.

Full detail in Galleries, and the moderation side in Moderating reviews.

Who holds the pixels matters

Gallery uploads and review photos are stored by Evident, not linked from wherever they happen to live. That is a durability decision rather than a feature: a gallery assembled from hotlinked images is a gallery that quietly empties out as the sources move, expire or get deleted.

Product images are the one exception, and we would rather say so than let you find out: those are referenced from your platform's CDN. If a product is deleted upstream or the platform connection lapses, those images stop resolving. Your customers' photos do not have that problem.

Galleries also lazy-load and reserve their layout space, so a grid of thirty images does not cost thirty requests up front or shift the page after load.

Two settings, chosen independently

How much structure a gallery has, and how it presents itself, are separate on purpose — so an advanced, indexable gallery can still be a carousel.

Two content models

Simple

A flat, ordered set of items with a caption and maybe a link. This is what most stores want, and what a wall of customer photos should be.

Advanced

Every item gets its own slug and detail subpage, product cards and prev/next navigation. Use it when the items are the content — a lookbook, customer stories, project write-ups — rather than decoration.

Two display modes

Grid

A responsive grid with a column count you set. The default, and the right answer for a product page or a dedicated page.

Carousel

Horizontally scrolling, with optional arrows and dots. Better on a homepage, where a carousel of real customers does more than another product grid.

What a gallery can do

Pull from photo reviews

The fastest way to fill a gallery: customers have already given you the content and, by reviewing, the context.

Upload directly

Your own shoots and lookbooks, held in Evident’s storage rather than linked from somewhere else.

Accept submissions

The widget offers an upload form. Submissions land pending and are moderated before they appear.

Tag products in an item

Link a photo to the products in it, so browsing turns into a product page visit.

Grid or carousel

A responsive grid with a column count you set, or a horizontal carousel with optional arrows and dots.

Detail pages per item

An advanced gallery gives every item a slug, a subpage, product cards and prev/next navigation.

Favourites

Viewers can favourite items, and a lead form can capture what they favourited along with the lead.

Lazy-loaded, no shift

Images load as they are needed and layout space is reserved, so a grid of thirty does not cost thirty requests up front.

Where a gallery earns its keep

Homepage

A carousel of customer photos does more for a first-time visitor than another product grid.

Product page, below reviews

Photos of the actual thing, in real rooms, on real people. Leave the lead form off here.

A dedicated page

An advanced gallery with detail subpages is a content section in its own right, and one search engines will index.

Landing pages

A gallery filtered to a campaign’s content, with the lead form on and favourites captured.

Common questions

Where do the photos in a gallery come from? +

Three sources, and they compose in one gallery: files you upload directly, photos pulled from reviews you have already approved, and customer submissions through an upload form on the widget itself. Pulling from approved photo reviews is the one to use first — the content exists already and it arrives with the context of a real purchase.

Who hosts the images? +

Gallery uploads and review photos are stored by Evident. Product images are the exception: they are referenced from your platform’s CDN rather than copied, so if a product is deleted upstream or the platform connection lapses, those stop resolving. Customer photos do not have that problem.

Are customer submissions published automatically? +

No. Submissions arrive pending and go through the same moderation queue as photo and video reviews. Nothing a stranger uploads reaches your storefront until you approve it.

What is the difference between a simple and an advanced gallery? +

How much structure each item has. A simple gallery is a flat ordered set with captions. An advanced gallery gives every item a slug, its own detail subpage, product cards and prev/next navigation, which makes it a content section search engines can index. Slugs are only generated for advanced galleries, so switching a simple gallery to advanced generates them at that point.

Can a gallery capture leads? +

Yes — a heading, description, fields, button text and position, and optionally the items the viewer favourited are captured alongside the lead. It is worth using on a lookbook or a project gallery, where browsing is genuinely a signal of intent. It is worth not using on a wall of customer photos on a product page, where it interrupts someone who was already going to buy.

Will a gallery slow my product pages down? +

Galleries lazy-load their images and reserve layout space, so adding one does not shift the page after it loads, and a grid of thirty images does not cost thirty requests up front. They render through the same single script as every other Evident widget — adding a gallery does not add a vendor.

How do I put one on my store? +

One container element with the gallery’s slug, next to the script you have already installed. Display mode, column count, caption position and whether the submission form shows are all attributes on that element, so you can override the gallery’s own settings per placement without touching the dashboard.
