Asking is the whole job
Almost every store with too few reviews has the same cause: nobody is asked, or they are asked at the wrong moment. Evident starts the clock when an order reaches a fulfilment status rather than at checkout, so the request lands after the parcel does. An order that sits unshipped for three weeks starts counting the day it ships, not the day it was paid for.
From there it is a sequence of up to four emails, each with its own delay and its own template. Photos are requested by default and video is not, because asking for video up front costs you responses — turn it on once the programme is producing. Every request links to a hosted form on a single-use token, so the customer never signs in, and the form already knows which products the order contained.
The detail is in Review request emails, and the strategy in Launching a review programme.
And not asking, where it matters
The requests you do not send are what keep the programme credible. Evident drops a customer who has already reviewed the product, never emails a suppressed address, and refuses any order that was already more than 30 days old when it arrived — which is what stops a history import from emailing a year of customers at once.
You can also exclude products: welcome packets, free gifts, samples, gift wrap, anything your platform ships as a line item that nobody chose. A partially excluded order still gets a request, asking only about the rest. An order made entirely of excluded products sends nothing, and shows in Orders as skipped with the reason — a deliberate skip and a failure never look the same.

Great product overall. Took a day longer to ship than expected but worth the wait.

Bring your existing reviews
Import from Yotpo, Stamped, Judge.me, Okendo, Loox or a plain CSV — with their original dates, so a three-year-old review does not arrive looking like it was written this morning. Photos are copied into our storage rather than linked from your old provider, so they keep working after you cancel. Free on every plan.
Common questions
When does the review request actually go out? +
A configurable number of days after the order reaches a qualifying status — "Shipped" by default, and you can change which statuses qualify. The clock starts at the status change, not at checkout, so an order that sits unshipped for a month starts counting the day it ships.
How many emails will a customer get? +
At most four: one initial request and up to three follow-ups, each with its own delay, subject, body and template style. A common shape is a request at 7 to 14 days and one reminder 5 to 7 days later. Follow-ups stop once the customer reviews.
What stops Evident emailing the wrong people? +
Four rules, applied at send time. A customer who has already reviewed the product is skipped. A suppressed address — unsubscribed, bounced, marked spam, or suppressed by hand — is never emailed. An order more than 30 days old when it first reaches Evident is skipped, so importing a year of history does not email a year of customers. And products you have excluded, such as free gifts and samples, are dropped from the request; an order made entirely of excluded products sends nothing and is logged as skipped with the reason.
What makes a review "verified"? +
Evident matches the review back to the order that contained the product. It is derived from your order data rather than self-declared, which is why the badge means something — a reviewer cannot award it to themselves.
Can I send review requests through Klaviyo instead? +
Yes, and when you connect Klaviyo, Omnisend or Mailchimp, Evident stops sending review emails entirely. It fires an event into your platform at the moment the email would have gone out, carrying the order, the products and the review links, and your flow does the sending. The timing still lives in Evident, so do not add a second delay in your flow — it stacks.
Will reviews show up in Google search results? +
The review widget emits Product, AggregateRating and Review structured data, which is what Google reads to show star ratings in results. Whether it chooses to show them is always Google’s call, not a setting either of us controls.
Can I bring the reviews I already have? +
Yes, on every plan, and with their original dates rather than the date you imported them. Exports from Yotpo, Stamped, Judge.me, Okendo and Loox are supported, as is a plain CSV. Photos are copied into our own storage rather than linked from your old provider, so they keep working after you cancel.
