Mailchimp review request automation
When Mailchimp is connected, Evident fires a evident_review_request event to your Mailchimp audience instead of sending the email itself. You build the Customer Journey in Mailchimp — full control over template, timing, and segmentation.
How it works
Order placed
Evident detects the order and waits for your configured delay (e.g. 7 days) before acting.
Event fires after delay
Evident sends "evident_review_request" to your Mailchimp audience with order, product, and review link data.
Your Journey sends immediately
Mailchimp triggers your Customer Journey right away — no extra delay needed. The timing is already baked in.
Plan requirement: Custom event triggers in Customer Journeys require a Mailchimp Standard plan or higher. The Essentials and Free plans do not support event-triggered automations.
Connect Mailchimp in Evident
Go to Settings → Integrations in your Evident dashboard and click Connect next to Mailchimp. You'll be redirected to Mailchimp to authorize the connection. After authorizing, you'll be prompted to select which Mailchimp audience Evident should sync contacts and fire events to.
Evident also provisions six custom merge fields on your audience at connect time — EVPOINTS, EVTIER, EVREVIEWS, and more — so contact properties stay current automatically.
Create a Customer Journey in Mailchimp
In Mailchimp, go to Automations → Customer Journeys → Create Journey. Set the starting point trigger to API (Customer Journey API trigger). Give the journey a name like "Review Request — Evident".
Trigger settings
Add an email send action
Add a Send Email action immediately after the trigger — do not add a time delay. Evident already holds the event until your configured delay has passed (e.g. 7 days after the order). Adding a delay in Mailchimp too would stack on top and double the wait.
Contact merge fields
Evident automatically keeps the following merge fields up to date on each contact. Use them in your email template with *|EVPOINTS|* syntax:
| Merge tag | Description |
|---|---|
*|EVPOINTS|* | Loyalty points balance |
*|EVTIER|* | Loyalty tier name (e.g. GOLD) |
*|EVREVIEWS|* | Total approved reviews |
*|EVRATING|* | Average rating given |
*|EVVBUY|* | "Yes" if a verified buyer |
*|EVLASTREV|* | Date of most recent review |
Add a reminder step (optional)
After the first email, add a Time Delay of 5–7 days, then a second Send Email action. Add an If/Else condition before the reminder that checks whether the contact's EVREVIEWS merge field has increased since the journey started — skip the reminder if they have reviewed.
Turn the Journey live
Activate the Customer Journey. The next time a customer's order triggers a review request from Evident, Mailchimp will fire the journey and send your email.
Verify the integration by going to Settings → Integrations → Mailchimp → Events & Test in Evident. A test event fires to Mailchimp and the contact gets created in your audience with all merge fields pre-populated.
